Hi! I’m Ylionord Joseph. I’m a math tutor who believes that mastering numbers is less about memorizing formulas and more about understanding how they actually work in the real world. My background is a blend of technical engineering and high-level finance: I’m a Phi Theta Kappa honor graduate with degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Economics, and I’m currently pursuing my MS in Corporate Finance at the University of Arizona. I also serve as a Finance Officer in the U.S. Army, where I’ve learned that precision and organization are the best tools for staying calm under pressure. I bring that same structure and patience to my sessions, helping students cut through the "noise" of a difficult textbook to focus on what actually matters.
Over the last two years, I’ve worked with more than 100 students, guiding them through everything from Pre-Algebra to Calculus I. I also served as a Supplemental Instruction Leader for General Chemistry, which taught me how to break down intimidating, multi-step problems into manageable pieces. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach; we’ll start by identifying exactly where you’re getting stuck so we can build a plan that fits your learning style. Whether we are working on foundational algebra or complex derivatives, I focus on "scaffolded" learning, starting with what you know and building up to the hard stuff.
Because of my experience in engineering and finance, I love showing students the "why" behind the math, whether that’s seeing how functions apply to design or how optimization works in the economy. My goal is to help you ditch the test anxiety, build your confidence, and finally feel in control of the subject. Whether you are prepping for a big exam, struggling with homework, or just want to get ahead of next semester's curriculum, I am here to provide the accountability and clarity you need. I look forward to helping you succeed!
