I am currently a mathematics major at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. I also serve as a Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) Leader, where I work directly alongside professors to support student success in college-level math courses. Through this role, I have led guided learning sessions and helped students strengthen their understanding of key concepts in subjects such as College Algebra, Math for Business, and Pre-Calculus. Over multiple semesters, I have gained experience working with students at different skill levels, including those who may feel overwhelmed or unsure about their math abilities. Seeing students grow in confidence and even pursue leadership roles themselves has been one of the most rewarding parts of my experience.
My approach to tutoring focuses on clarity, patience, and building a strong foundation. I believe that understanding why a concept works is just as important as knowing how to solve a problem. During sessions, I break down complex topics into manageable steps and encourage students to actively engage with the material, rather than simply memorizing procedures. I also adapt my teaching style to fit each student’s needs—whether that means reviewing fundamentals, working through practice problems together, or preparing for upcoming exams.
In addition to my background in mathematics, I have a minor in art, which has helped me develop strong visual and creative ways of explaining concepts. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence, and ultimately becoming more independent in their problem-solving skills.
