Hello parents and students! My specialty is helping students to become more thoughtful and critical readers. I have taught ELA, Theater Arts, and Speech for 23 years. I have a Master's Degree in Advanced Literacy. While studying for my Master's I gained a wealth of knowledge and skills that provided me with great tools to help struggling readers. I provide students with strategies that will ultimately enhance their comprehension skills. I believe that for students to gain a love for reading, initially the material must be relevant to them. Students must have access to reading materials that interest them. Next, I teach students how to make valid connections to what they are reading. This will help students to better comprehend what they are reading. I am also a huge promoter of building vocabulary. The more words a student is exposed to the more successful they are in reading and verbal and written communication. I also have an undergraduate degree in Theater Arts. I can help students with public speaking, poetry, and acting.
Education is my passion and it is my philosophy that education is the key to success. I am dedicated to helping struggling students gain success in their educational endeavors. I look forward to working with you!
