After graduating from Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in English Literature, I earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Mississippi University for Women. I spent time traveling across the United States before eventually settling in Texas, where I continue to pursue my lifelong love of learning.
For more than 15 years, I have taught English at the secondary level, including AP English Language & Composition and AP English Literature & Composition. I also provide private tutoring for the SAT, TSI, and STAAR exams, as well as ongoing support in reading, writing, literary analysis, and college admissions essays. During the summer, I serve as an AP Reader for the College Board, evaluating student essays for the AP English Language & Composition Exam.
My goal is to help students become confident, independent learners. I begin by connecting new concepts to what students already know or by sparking their curiosity with engaging questions and examples. From there, I provide clear, direct instruction followed by guided practice that builds both understanding and confidence. As students master foundational skills, I challenge them with increasingly complex concepts, helping them develop the critical thinking and analytical abilities they need to succeed in the classroom and on standardized exams.
Whether you're preparing for an AP exam, strengthening your writing, improving your reading comprehension, or developing your creative voice, I'm committed to creating a supportive, engaging learning environment where you can achieve your goals.
