About David

This is David, an algebra tutor with over 5 years of experience. I found out about WyzAnt fairly recently (Jan 2014). I tutor mostly in public libraries and coffee shops, but also in-home, if more convenient. I live in North Texas, have my own vehicle, and am willing to travel.
I graduated with a 4-Year Degree 'Emergency Administration and Planning' from UNT (16 Dec 16) because I want to save lives, increase readiness in families, and have a career that makes a real difference.
I was homeschooled my entire life before college. I have worked for Weatherford College as a tutor and a disability assistant, under Bernadean Connell (Director of Special Populations). I have tutored students with and without special needs including, but not limited to: ADD, cerebral palsy, mobility-restrictions, and other physical, mental, and learning disabilities. I was awarded the 'Certificate of Recognition' "for enriching the lives of special students by tutoring math and taking notes in other classes" by Weatherford College (Fall 2011). Tutoring is my passion and I enjoy helping others succeed when they are struggling. I believe that students should be able to get quality tutoring from someone who cares about their success, at a low, affordable cost. References are available.
I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and received the certification "Five Star Chapter Development Plan Leader" at the 93rd Phi Theta Kappa International Convention in Seattle, WA (7-9 Apr 2011).
I am certified at Level 1 by the College Reading and Learning Association's International Tutor Training Program Certification, the same level as the UNT Learning Center tutors.
I completed TECM-2700 Technical Writing [UNT] (Dec 2014).

I served for 9 months in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps (11 Aug 2015 - 17 May 2016). I performed service in a team-based national service program to serve under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), who fingerprinted me again. I performed 'Hazard Mitigation', 'Disaster Survivor Assistance', and 'Individual Assistance'.
I scored a [94] on the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) [highest is 99] (16 Mar 2016).

I am a 2nd Lieutenant Senior Member in the United States Civil Air Patrol, which encourages young children to pursue integrity, volunteer work, and excellence.
I have a Civil Air Patrol Driver License (Aug 2012 - Sep 2020) and have completed the Technician, Senior, and Master Safety Specialty Track courses.

I am a Texas Notary Public [term of office: 13 Jul 2015 – 13 Jul 2019] and completed the Texas Ethics Commission Government Ethics Training (9 May 2015).
I completed the FEMA course IS-33.15 Initial Ethics Orientation 2015 (30 Jan 2015) as well as 32 other FEMA courses.
I received a Texas Private Security Bureau Non-commissioned Security Officer License (20 Oct 2014 – 20 Oct 2016)
I passed the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2 Exam (10 Jul 2014). It is psychological evaluation that is used to screen candidates who are training to become police officers, nuclear power plant personnel, etc.
I am a graduate of the Denton Citizen Police Academy (2 Jun 2014), a 12-week program involving the citizens in keeping the community safer (like a neighborhood watch for the entire city) and teaching us about how the police operate. I went on a "rideout" where I rode in a Denton Police SUV and watched the work of the police at night. (May 2014).
I am a volunteer in the Denton County CERT (Community Emergency Response Team); and a Safety Manager in the Denton County MRC (Medical Reserve Corps) (since 25 Jan 2014) because I want to assist in emergencies and help those in my community. (since 9 Nov 2013)

I am American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certified (9 Jan 2017).
I completed the OSHA 30-Hour Outreach Training for General Industry (3 Jan 2017).
I also received OSHA 1910.120 24-Hour HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response) (Enhanced) Awareness Training (9 Dec 2014).

I am confident and driven, and do my best to make the world a better place.
What people notice first is my personality and eagerness to help out. My friends say that I am confident, a great listener, have insightful perspectives, and always there when they're in a jam.
I look forward to helping you out!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Excellent and consistent Tutoring

I met David in 2013 at North Central Texas College where he was studying and tutoring. At the time I was looking for a college algebra tutor but was struggling to find someone who could accommodate my busy schedule and be patient with my learning pace. I did some tutoring sessions with David and couldn't have found a better candidate. 2 years later I've completed 3 levels of algebra and couldn't h
