My name is Jacob, it's nice to meet you! I am a tutor with a BA in Music and a Minor in History from the University of North Texas. I graduated summa cum laude in 2026 and was an active member of the Pi Kappa Lambda and Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Societies. I love history, and I currently work in the museum and archives world.

I have collected and developed a set of effective, yet simple studying strategies that assist in increasing information retention, recollection, and application in order to set students up to write compelling essays, ace exams, and actually absorb course material. My goal is not to simply give students the answer, but to enable them to find the answer themselves. I especially focus on effective note-taking, outlining, and organization, as I believe these serve as the foundation for academic success.

I can assist students in creating cohesive outlines for any type of essay, and help students focus on their main ideas and develop their narratives and arguments. Due to my strict and traditional English curriculum in my early education, I have a strong grasp of academic tone and can help students use formal language, while still allowing their individual writing style to shine. I am well-versed in English grammar and can proofread essays and explain grammatical concepts to prevent future mistakes. An often forgotten, but important skill for English and History I can help with is effective research and proper citation of sources.

As a composer and pianist with over fifteen years of musical training, I also have a strong grasp of music theory. I use a hands on approach to teaching students musical material, enabling them to not only identify and understand theory concepts, but also incorporate them into their own music. I have both classical and jazz training, allowing me to explain concepts from both perspectives. My unique background as a composition and history student gives me a deep understanding of music history. I am especially knowledgeable on 20th century music.
