I'm John and am happy to help! I received my bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, with Highest Distinction, and master's from the University of California, Berkeley. I have been a Teaching Assistant for Intro to Circuits, Digital Design and Embedded Systems. I specialize in tutoring Electrical Engineering, specifically:

AC/DC Circuit Analysis, KCL/KVL, Thevenin/Norton Circuits, Resistors/Inductors/Capacitors, Diodes and Transistors, Laplace Transforms, Frequency Domain Analysis, Electromagnetism (E&M), Boolean Algebra, K-Maps, Flip-Flops, Digital Design (finite state machines, counters, Boolean logic, CPU), Multisim, Logisim, Matlab, Python, C#

I am always expanding my subjects so always feel free to send material or seek help even if not listed! It works best for me to help students with specific problems (homework, practice exams, labs) they are struggling with. It is highly recommended for students to provide the material with 1-2 days advance notice. This way, I can work the problems out on my own, free of charge, and be most prepared and efficient for the lesson. I make every attempt to discuss the theory behind the problem in a systematic, step-by-step approach. Furthermore, I like to quiz students on how the approach or solution would change with minor changes to the problem to ensure a firm grasp of the underlying theory.

I am human. Although never intentional, I will make mistakes. I encourage all students to double check the approach and all calculations from each lesson. Please don't hesitate to message me questions if anything is unclear from the lesson or you think something is incorrect. If I do make a mistake, I ask for the opportunity to make it right before you leave any feedback. I pride myself on knowing each student walks away fully satisfied. I understand not all topics are easy and take time to develop, and sometimes require taking a step back to re-learn fundaments. I welcome all feedback to adjust my technique to maximize the impact for each student!

I have a Master’s in Electrical Engineering with 2 years experience as a Teaching Assistant at the college level and over 1 year tutoring at the high school level. I like to demonstrate problems with real-world examples to help students understand and visualize their application and importance. Then we work through problems together, gradually increasing difficulty, and eventually such that the student can complete them on their own.

Knowledgeable and Professional

This was my first lesson and I saw that he was very eager to help people gain a better understanding of the topic. I found that his point of view and method of teaching was very effective and easier to grasp than other people's. He was also very patient and talked me through any questions or topics I did not fully understand . I recommend his tutoring service to anyone willing to succeed.

Expert and personal tutor

John F, taught my son Electrical Engineering. He has deep and thorough understanding of the subject but more importantly was able to explain the concepts in an easily understandable way. He is personal, professional , and a pleasure to deal with regardless of the interaction.

Fantastic Tutor

He explained everything I was struggling with in a way that perfectly suited the way I learn. He also answered all of my questions in perfect detail and is the reason I am feeling confident and ready for my exam. On top of helping with my struggle areas and work he also gave helpful exam tips to help with test anxiety and overall test taking. I highly recommend using him.

Excellent engineering tutor - makes all the difference

My daughter is completing her semester of EECS 16b at Cal (Circuits, Signals, Robotics etc) and survived (hopefully thrived, we will see after finals) all thanks to John! He is a patient, highly responsive tutor who she said explained things she did not understand very well and also laid out the foundation for fundamentals needed. John is super accommodating with scheduling, quick to reply to questions and needs, and sends out lesson recordings and recaps for review. Why struggle with these high level concepts when one can actually understand and enjoy them? Thank you John!

Very knowledgeable and reliable

First reached out to John in December of this year to support me in an Electrical Engineering course. Within a week, the support and guidance John provided helped me understand and independently build a complicated circuit board and understand the subject on a much deeper level. John is very reliable and dedicated to his students. You will not regret booking him. He knows his stuff!
