Hello! I hold a Ph.D. in physics from Penn State, where I spent more than five years as a teaching assistant. I taught undergraduates across the physics curriculum: introductory mechanics, electricity and magnetism, lab sections, and upper-level physics courses. My students came from nearly every major, including life sciences, engineering, and physics, and ranged from first-years meeting college physics for the first time to physics majors tackling advanced material. Calculus and linear algebra were the everyday tools in all of it, so I'm just as comfortable tutoring those subjects on their own.

After my Ph.D., I worked in quantitative risk at Goldman Sachs, where calculus, linear algebra, and probability were part of my daily work, and where I regularly mentored colleagues who were learning new quantitative methods. That experience taught me to explain technical ideas clearly to people from different backgrounds, and it lets me show students how these subjects are actually used outside the classroom.

I work with high school students (including AP Physics and AP Calculus), college students, and adult learners. Our first lesson starts with understanding where you are: what makes sense, where you get stuck, and what you're aiming for, whether that's a test, a course grade, or a career goal. From there, I focus on the reasoning behind each method before the formulas, work through problems with you rather than for you, and ask you to explain ideas back to me so we both know they've stuck. My goal isn't just to get you through the next problem set. It's to help things click so you can take on new problems with confidence.

I think of learning physics like hiking. The trail can look steep, but with the right guide every step gets easier and the view keeps getting better. Let's start climbing!

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

I hold a PhD in theoretical physics, where calculus was the core tool of my research, from multivariable and vector calculus to differential equations, and I served as a teaching assistant for calculus, helping students apply derivatives and integrals to real problems. As a risk quant at Goldman Sachs, I use calculus every day, including Taylor expansions for risk sensitivities, optimization and stochastic calculus for pricing models, so I can show students why these ideas matter beyond the exam. I focus on building intuition first, using graphs and physical examples to make limits, rates of change and accumulation concrete before moving to technique. I tutor everything from AP Calculus AB/BC to university Calculus I–III and differential equations, and I adapt each session to the student’s level and goals.
Chinese

Chinese

Hi, I'm a theoretical physics Ph.D. born in China, I held a bachelor's degree in physics in Central China Normal University. I got Level 1 Grade B in Putonghua Proficiency Test. And I'm passionate about Chinese literature. I'm comfortable teaching Science in Chinese or give Chinese language lessons. Sincerely, Yaqi
Geometry

Geometry

I learned linear algebra when I was in middle school and keep applying it through out my academic career and as a quant researcher. I'm passionate about science and math, and I'm good at explaining abstract concept to every level of students.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I hold a PhD in theoretical physics, where linear algebra was the everyday language of my research: Hilbert spaces, Hermitian operators, eigenvalue problems and matrix representations of symmetry groups. As a risk quant at Goldman Sachs, I use it constantly on real financial data, working with covariance matrices, principal component analysis, factor models and decompositions such as Cholesky and SVD. With that background I can teach both the rigorous theory, from vector spaces and linear maps to diagonalization and the spectral theorem, and the computational side, from row reduction to numerical stability. I tailor each lesson to the student’s goals, whether that’s passing a first course, preparing for graduate study or applying linear algebra in physics, data science or finance.
Physics

Physics

I hold a PhD in theoretical physics and served as a teaching assistant for introductory mechanics and electricity and magnetism, optics, condensed matter physics, quantum mechanics, where I led recitation sections, held office hours and graded exams and problem sets. That experience showed me where students most often get stuck, such as drawing free-body diagrams, keeping sign conventions straight and turning word problems into equations, and how to build intuition before reaching for formulas. As a risk quant at Goldman Sachs, I apply the same physical and mathematical reasoning to financial models, so I can show students how physics thinking carries into fields beyond the classroom. I tutor everything from high school and AP Physics to university courses in classical mechanics, electromagnetism and quantum mechanics, and I adapt each session to the student’s level and goals.
Statistics

Statistics

I hold a PhD in theoretical physics, where probability and statistical mechanics were core tools of my research. As a risk quant at Goldman Sachs, I've applied statistics to real financial data every day, working with probability distributions, covariance and correlation, regression, principal component analysis and factor models, so I can show students how statistical ideas drive real decisions. I focus on building intuition first, using real data and simple simulations to make ideas like sampling distributions, confidence intervals and p-values concrete before moving to formulas and procedures. I tutor everything from AP Statistics to college introductory and upper-level statistics and probability, and I adapt each session to the student's level and goals.
