I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from New York University, where I also taught Introduction to Creative Writing as an Adjunct Instructor. I earned my B.A. in English Literature, magna cum laude, from Stony Brook University, with a minor in Creative Writing, and I hold a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification from the University of Toronto. My academic background has given me extensive training in literature, composition, rhetoric, critical analysis, and creative writing, as well as experience working closely with students to develop their writing and reading skills.
Since September 2024, I have also worked as a writing, rhetoric, and literature tutor at a college preparatory academy, working with students individually and in small-group settings. I help students strengthen their reading comprehension, develop clear and persuasive arguments, organize and revise essays, and become more confident and independent writers. My experience includes working with students preparing for college-level academic work, and I adapt my approach to each student's abilities, goals, and learning style.
My tutoring philosophy is centered on teaching students how to think and communicate effectively rather than simply correcting their work for them. In writing sessions, I guide students through brainstorming, outlining, drafting, close reading, revision, and editing, explaining the reasoning behind each step so they can apply these skills independently. In literature and reading, I encourage students to move beyond summary by examining language, structure, evidence, rhetorical choices, and the relationship between a text's stated ideas and its effects on the reader. I aim to create a supportive environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, taking intellectual risks, and developing their own voice.
