Classical School Educator: Latin, Bible, Theology, and Math

I am a former headmaster of a classical Christian school in the Dallas area who is passionate about K-12 education. I have a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Texas, and I have a Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies from Belhaven University. I have taught Latin, Bible, Church History, Theology, and Math, and I have coached basketball.

The curricula I have mostly used for Latin are Wheelock's and Jenny's, focusing on Latin grammar and translating sentences from Latin to English. For Bible, Church History, and Theology, I had my students read through original texts, take daily quizzes, and put together one major essay and presentation each semester. These were discussion and socratic-style classes rather than lecture-based. I believe that getting students involved in the discussion is, in most cases, a better method for learning than a 45-minute lecture. For Math, I taught pre-algebra for 6 years. I have experience in all of these subjects both as a classroom instructor and as a private tutor. I also coached basketball for 6 years, ran many basketball camps, and have led one-on-one sessions.

As a tutor, I aim to make every student feel comfortable and confident. I am a patient educator who takes the time to truly understand where and why a student may be struggling in a particular subject or concept. My goal is not just to help my students get a passing grade, but to ensure they have a foundational understanding of the content so that they can continue to be successful in the future. I also help my students find joy in learning. I believe that learning does not end in the classroom, but should be a lifelong pursuit.
