Bio

I have happily spent my life in music and have been teaching since 2017. It has been my full-time job for the last 3 or 4 years, and I currently have lots of students both independently and with the organization Note By Note Music Studios. I teach personalized lessons in piano, composition/songwriting, and music theory, as well as electronic production and composition with Ableton. I am enthusiastic, versatile, and a good communicator. I teach personalized lessons in piano, composition/songwriting, and music theory, as well as electronic production and composition with Ableton. I am enthusiastic, versatile, and a good communicator. I have written far more music pieces across all genres than I can keep track of, and love to inspire others.

I am a father of a three year old son and eight year old daughter, and while I enjoy teaching advanced students I'm also great with kids.

Piano

Music has always been the central focus of my life, and piano has always been my primary instrument. I started when I was five and to this day I love to play the great classical repertoire of composers like Chopin, Ravel, and my personal favorite Terry Riley. I also love using it as a jazz instrument, and while growing up played in both big bands and smaller groups. I think piano is the perfect instrument to compose on and really helps you understand music as a whole, and is what I use for my endlessly layered electronic music. I also enjoy putting it in a rock or pop setting where it takes over the role usually taken by guitar.
Songwriting

Songwriting

I love to write music more than anything except my family. I have written or co-written countless songs or instrumental pieces over the years, and I'm great at taking peoples inspired writing and helping them expand it into a complete piece. I enjoy writing lyrics and perfectly lining them up with the music. I also enjoy replicating many diverse specific styles so that I can use them as part of my toolkit when its time for pure creativity.

Professional and knowledgeable

Evan was excellent to work with. He was highly professional, patient, and clearly very knowledgeable in music theory, which is exactly the area where I need the most help right now. He explained concepts in a way that was easy to understand and also spent time working through part of a song with me, which was very helpful.
