I have a PhD in Music Composition from UCLA, and I specialize in helping students intuitively understand music theory, develop original compositions, and prepare for college/conservatory/grad school admissions.

I bring years of experience across many disciplines (trumpet, conducting, arranging, music theory, composing) and a passion and enthusiasm for music. I studied composition with GRAMMY-winning composer Richard Danielpour, who studied with Leonard Bernstein (of West Side Story). I received acceptances to the following college programs: Juilliard, Columbia, UT Austin, UCLA, Berklee College of Music, and Rice. I have a Master’s in Music Composition from UCLA, Bachelor’s in Music Composition from UT Austin, and a Bachelor’s in Plan II Honors (an interdisciplinary program) from UT Austin. With my admittance to these programs, including UCLA’s Doctoral program, I earned over $200K in merit scholarships/fellowships.

My philosophy as a teacher is to meet students where they are—from any level. As a graduate student, I spent five years teaching students from elementary through grad school. Whether you are working on a film score, classical piece, jazz tune, or a diverse composition portfolio, I can help you realize your creative vision and bring your piece to life. I look forward to hearing your work and helping you take it to the next level!

I taught Music Theory and Musicianship at UCLA for 3 years to Music Majors. I have an in-depth knowledge of harmony that allows me to teach any subject in theory from Early Music, Renaissance polyphony, Baroque counterpoint, Classical forms, Romantic harmonies, 20th century modernism, jazz, film music, and beyond.
Trumpet

Trumpet

I toured with brass bands and jazz ensembles across the US and Latin America to perform at international jazz festivals. I have an emphasis in trumpet performance from the University of Texas at Austin and studied with great masters like Ray Sasaki, Dennis Dotson (Woody Herman Band), Stuart Mack, and Tom Booth (Dallas Symphony Orchestra). My trumpet teaching method encourages consistency in practice and unlocks improvement in tone, articulation, music fundamentals, range, improvisation, and musicality.
