Hi, I'm Deepthi! It's nice to meet you. I am an Ohio native who now lives in the great state of Texas. I have a Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience with a minor in Mathematics from Washington and Lee University. I also have a Master's degree in Neuroscience from Wake Forest University. I've always loved math and science and enjoy working with students on subjects I love. I look forward to working with you!
I have experience tutoring students from 3rd through 10th grade in math. With my younger students, I employ a variety of teaching techniques and provide students with flashcards and workbooks for them to continue to practice outside of our sessions. I also prioritize developing number sense in younger students by starting each lesson with mental math practice. I have found that this helps students both in the short and long term. I also believe that younger students benefit most clearly from rewards and positive reinforcement so I work closely with parents to create positive emotions around math and homework.
I adapt my teaching methodology when I work with older students to include more independent problem solving. I allow my older students to drive the session by having them start each problem set independently. I take notes of where they hesitate and where they are confident. Then, I create additional practice to focus on their weaknesses and intersperse problems to help build confidence. I have had success with this technique and found that it creates a strong rapport between me and my students.
