I have been sewing since I was a child, learning from family. I went to school at Indiana University for Demi-Couture clothing design. Since then, I have been working as an independent custom clothing designer and sewing teacher. I enjoy a variety of sewing interests, dressmaking, leather work, embroidery, alternative fashion, cosplay, and sometimes even crochet, knitting, felting and weaving.
I've dabbled in some of the cosplay elements like armor making, foam work, silicone and other more mixed media and alternative construction techniques, and continue to learn and grow in this direction.
I believe in experiential learning, and will encourage students to play and explore, to "embrace the suck" by trying new things, and learning from those mistakes. I like utilizing upcycling and reworked materials to encourage this process in order to relieve the pressure from mistakes by using materials already destined for landfills. (they can always meet that destiny later after you've messed with them!)
Creativity is a discipline and requires frequent exercise. Whether you're approaching learning from an artistic or practical craftsman perspective, I can help you achieve your goals.
