I am a TESOL-certified tutor with 3 years of intercultural English teaching experience. I have taught both in-person in Vietnam and China, as well as online with Korean and Russian students. Within these individual experiences, I have taught individuals in one-on-one settings, small groups (2-4 students) and full-sized classrooms.
I hold a BA in International Service, as well as a Certificate in Applied Linguistics, and am currently working towards an MA in Descriptive Linguistics. Due to my linguistics background, I have a deep understanding of articulatory phonetics (how speech sounds are made), phonology, and the patterns of grammar. Thus, I have a deep passion for teaching students not only what we say in English, but also bringing them to an understanding of why we say it in a particular way. This ensures students acquire patterns rather than simply memorizing phrases and isolated vocabulary.
I am dedicated to crafting each session to the needs of the particular student, customizing both the content of the lessons as well as how it is presented. This includes working towards an understanding of the cultural context in which English is used in the student's environment. This keeps each session relevant.
While most of my experience is teaching TESOL to students grades 5-8, I am best at helping students with middle to advanced proficiency in the English language improve upon their skills.
