Bio

Hi there, my name is Jennifer D. and I currently reside with my family in a suburb outside of Houston, TX. I recently retired from the classroom after 28 years in public education, teaching both junior high and high school math classes, both on-level and advanced levels. Although I retired from the classroom, I did not retire from my love of teaching my students. Throughout my 28 years of teaching, I have also privately tutored outside of the classroom for over 10 years. I take great pride in my profession, and I treat each student as an individual situation. As a classroom teacher, my students' passing percentage on their standardized tests have been some of the highest on the campus.

While I respect and appreciate all that teachers do in their classroom on a daily basis, I know first hand that it can be difficult to reach every student, every day. Many times teachers and schools have differentiated classrooms and extended tutoring hours, but outside factors sometimes get in the way of an effective session. I consider tutoring to be en extension of the classroom, and welcome any resources that might be available. When I set up a tutoring session, I know that between my student and myself, we have 100% of each other’s attention. One of my most recent tutoring students came to me failing Algebra (Advanced level) towards the end of the Fall semester. We were able to recover his understanding and pass the semester with a low B, and by the end of the Spring semester he had achieved an A.

I have an MEd from Lamar University and a Mathematics degree from Texas A&M University. As a teacher or tutor, I strive to develop my lessons so that each student feels comfortable with right and wrong answers, has a way to comprehend the concepts and be able to accomplish the necessary written tasks at hand...with a positive outcome. Since math classes all build on the previous class, I know too well how important it is to learn the concepts, and be able to make the connections between them. I like to use the knowledge/experi
