Hi! My name is Alli. I am a high school math teacher who has been tutoring for 10 years. I have always been skilled at math and naturally began helping my friends better understand their homework. It saddened me to hear them tell me that I taught them better than their teacher, but it encouraged my love for math and started me on the path to becoming a teacher. My goal, whether in teaching a class of students or tutoring one-on-one, is to empower students to be able to tackle problems on their own.
I believe that practice is the best way to improve math skills, so I walk students through multiple practice problems, showing them how to systematically solve all kinds of problems. I generally show students how to do something one or two times, have them try it with me step-by-step a couple times, and then fully let them attempt problems on their own with me checking and providing feedback until they feel confident in the skill. Of course, this method is adapted to best fit whatever student I am working with, but I find this process works well for most students.
I graduated from Lamar University in 2020 with a degree in Mathematics. I had an 'A' average in all of my math classes. Since then, I have worked as a Math Specialist at a test prep company, and am now a math teacher at a private school. I teach Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. I love working with my students and I hope to be able to work with you!
