ACT English

The ACT English test is a test which assesses your knowledge of writing and grammar. It is a 75 question, 45 minute test. The ACT English test is completely manageable, and I can help you with strategies to prepare for it.

ACT Reading

The ACT Reading section is a 40 question, 35-minute test that contains two short passages. The passages are accompanied by a set of multiple-choice questions which are designed to test your ability to draw generalizations, identify themes, and recognize the author's tone. I have been taking tests involving this type of critical reading for many years, and can help you pass them with ease. There are strategies you can use to reduce your stress and make reading the passages much easier. Let me help you with your ACT test prep!

Bar Exam

I passed the Texas bar exam after using Kaplan study materials. Those materials highly prepare you for the exam. I learned how to pace myself, which topics to focus on and common bar examiner tricks, i.e. red herrings, which are used to test your critical reading and analytical skills.

Criminal Justice

I hold a JD from St. Mary's University School of Law and am well-versed in the criminal justice system. From the court structure of the state of Texas to the various stages of a criminal case, I can help you learn what you need to pass your Criminal Justice class.

Elementary (K-6th)

K-6th grade are the formative years for students. The student will learn reading comprehension, essay writing, spelling, grammar and vocabulary. As a graduate of St. Mary's law, I am well versed in all of those subject areas. I can help your K-6th grade student with any of those topics, including study skills! Whether it be creative writing or composing a research paper, it is a crucial skill required to get you through school. You should be able to read novels, passages, and essays and draw from them the main point, themes and conclusions. Grammar, spelling and punctuation are necessary skills, and if you're struggling with these things now, I can help you master them. Critical reading is so important because it is tested on the SAT and the LSAT, as well as other higher level tests.

English

English is a subject that many students struggle with, whether it's reading or writing. The good news is that it's completely manageable, once you know how to extract important themes and how to write a paper. I can help you with essay form and reading.

ESL/ESOL

Through quizzes and reading comprehension exercises, I can help you improve your English. I have plenty of materials to help students learn adverbs, adjectives, grammar, spelling and the like.

Law

As a recent graduate of St. Mary's University School of Law, I can help you with college level law courses as well as law school courses. Such courses require critical reading and thinking, legal analysis and legal writing. You will need to know how to read and brief a case, as well as perform legal research and learn proper legal citation.

Literature

Literature is often a required course in college. You will encounter American, English, and African-American literature, in addition to other types of literature. While earning my English degree, I studied the three aforementioned genres of literature in-depth. I can help you identify themes, teach you important literary terms and techniques, and assist you in test prep and paper writing.

Proofreading

Proofreading is very important for research papers, essays and take home exams. It's always best to have another set of eyes review something before you turn it in. I have many years of proofreading experience, and did a lot of peer review in law school. Let me help you before you turn in that paper!

SAT Reading

The SAT reading section, also known as the Critical Reading section, is an important part of the SAT exam. You will be presented with a series of passages to read and will be tested on your ability to understand them. More specifically, you will be tested on your ability to identify the main idea, organization, and the author's tone.

SAT Writing

The SAT Writing test can seem daunting. It is a timed test with 3 sections: a 25-minute essay question, a 25-minute section with questions on improving sentences, identifying sentence errors and 6 improving paragraphs, and a 10-minute section on improving sentences. With practice, you can nail this test. I am confident that I can help you pass this part of the SAT with ease.

Study Skills

I graduated from St. Mary's University School of Law in May 2011. Study skills are crucial for success in school. You must learn to prioritize, which is done based on due dates/deadlines and length of a project. When you prioritize and pace yourself, you will never become overwhelmed because everything will get done in a timely manner. Anyone can learn study skills, and doing so helps you to get better grades.
