Hey y’all, I’m Ana! I’m a magna cum laude graduate of University College Roosevelt in the Netherlands, where I earned a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Literature. I also completed a STEM-focused IB diploma, so I know firsthand how intense the IB experience can be. My background allows me to tutor across both science and writing, including biology, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, English, essay writing, literary analysis, and research skills. Outside of tutoring, I work in biomedical research involving oncology, infectious disease, scientific literature reviews, data analysis, and manuscript writing and editing.

I’ve spent about 3 years tutoring multinational students ages 9–32, from elementary school through university, both in person and online. I've held one-on-one and 5-10 student group sessions. I tutor biology, anatomy, English, essay writing, literary analysis, and research skills, with particular experience helping IB students with English Literature analyses, IAs, oral assessments, and Extended Essays. My expertise lies in walking you through how to structure a research paper, essay, or analyses, or just polishing an essay that just isn't quite saying what you want it to. Bring me a paper topic or assignment, or biological concept you’re having trouble understanding and I’m happy to walk through it with you.

My approach is structured but relaxed: I adapt lessons to the student rather than expecting everyone to learn the same way. Sometimes that means breaking down a complicated biology concept into tiny pieces; sometimes it means finding a ridiculous analogy to help it click. My goal is always to make students feel comfortable asking questions.

My philosophy is simple: there is no such thing as a “stupid” question—only a question we haven’t found a satisfying explanation for yet. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to chat about what you're looking for.

Approved Subjects

Anatomy

Anatomy

I earned a BSc in Biomedical Sciences magna cum laude and completed extensive coursework in human biology and biomedical sciences. My clinical observation experience has included surgical oncology, anesthesiology, emergency procedures, and pediatric care. I have observed several complex surgical procedures, conducted numerous dissections, and gained familiarity with anatomical terminology and the intertwined relationship between structure, physiology, and disease. I enjoy helping students move beyond memorizing labels and understand how the pieces actually fit together (my favorite bone is the xipohid process).
Biology

Biology

I graduated magna cum laude with a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and have several years of experience teaching and tutoring biology-related subjects. I have worked with high school and IB students on topics including genetics, evolution, biochemistry, and macromolecules. My biomedical research has also involved cancer biology, immunology, microbiology, and clinical research. I enjoy breaking down complicated biological processes into understandable parts—from the mitochondria as the powerhouse of the cell to more.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I graduated magna cum laude with a minor in Literature and have several years of one-on-one experience teaching writing to students ages 9–32. Through Preply and independent tutoring, I have helped students with academic essays, literary analysis, research papers, lab reports, and IB assessments, including Extended Essays and Internal Assessments. I have also worked professionally as an editor and manuscript writer in scientific research. My approach focuses on helping students organize their ideas, develop a clear argument, and make the writing process less terrifying.
Physiology

Physiology

I graduated magna cum laude with a BSc in Biomedical Science, and have extensive experience studying human biology and physiological systems. My clinical observation has included anesthesiology, pain management, surgical oncology, and emergency surgical procedures, allowing me to view physiological concepts in real clinical settings. I approach physiology by emphasizing mechanisms and connections between systems rather than rote memorization. My goal is to help students understand not only the what, but the why.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

After applying to speak at my university's TEDx event, I was surprised—and excited—to be invited instead to coach the speakers and serve as Master of Ceremonies. I worked individually with presenters to refine their content, strengthen their narratives, and practice delivery that was both authentic and engaging. As MC, I wrote and adapted the event script, managed transitions and unexpected delays, kept the audience engaged, and did subject everyone to a few terrible puns. My past experience in theater and performance alongside my tutoring and speaker coaching, has taught me that strong public speaking is not about sounding "perfect"—it is about communicating with clarity, confidence, and personality.
Writing

Writing

I have several years of experience teaching writing to students ages 9–32 in one-on-one and online settings. I have tutored academic, creative, research, and essay writing and have worked professionally as an editor, fiction ghostwriter, and scientific manuscript contributor. My academic background includes a Literature minor alongside a Biomedical Sciences degree, allowing me to help students write clearly in both the humanities and sciences. Whether we're fixing a thesis statement or rescuing a run-on sentence, my goal is to help students become more confident and independent writers.
