Bio

I have 20 years experience as an elementary school teacher. I have tutored for the past four years for a tutoring service and privately. I teach reading and math for elementary students, but also help with homework and other subjects where they are having difficulties. I also can teach music and piano as I have taught piano as needed for the past 30 years. I strive to make tutoring fun by playing learning games with students and providing hands on activities as part of each session.

  • Rate details: I can do a group for $40 a person. If you live outside my traveling radius, there will be an additional $5 charge. My radius is 15 miles.

I have been teaching elementary school for 21 years. I have taught Pre-k, Kindergarten, third grade, Fifth grade, and sixth grade English and Math for one of those years. I feel I would be able to teach any subject in grades 1-4 and reading or language for 5th and 6th grade. I have also tutored Kindergarten through fourth grade for several years.

I have taught elementary school for 22 years. During that time I have taught math and also tutored math after school for students. I have also tutored math for many students that were in third through sixth grade privately.
Music Theory

I have taught piano lessons which includes theory on and off for 30 years. I took piano myself for nine years as a child and it included music theory up through college level. I also taught music in elementary school for seven years where I taught theory.
Phonics

Phonics

I have taught elementary school for 20 years and have used the phonics approach to teach reading. For last 5 years I have taught phonics to kindergarten and pre-k students as a tool to teach them to read.
Piano

Piano

I took piano lessons for 10 years as a child. I minored in music in college and am certified to teach music in grades K - 8. For the past 30 years, I have taught piano lessons as needed. I also taught music for seven years in an elementary school. I have also played the piano in the past at my church and for people that needed to be accompanied by the piano.

Reading

I have been teaching elementary students for 22 years. I have also tutored for about 7 years. I have helped many students with reading difficulties and they have achieved the reading level needed at public school.

It's working!

My son never really liked to read and so when we moved back to the USA from Japan (he is 9) during the summer we thought of enrolling him into something like Sylvan. However after serious thought we opted for 1x1 tutoring and found Susan. She is very flexible (She and my son meet in the library meeting room). After about 7 lessons so far, his grandmother noticed how improved his reading has become. This is because he has more confidence in how to say the words and this is due to the special and fun WAY that Susan teaches. We are really happy with Susan's Tutoring Service.
