Hi! My name is Joel and I am attending the University of Texas at Austin (UT), pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Hook 'Em Horns! My goal in tutoring is to teach my students how to be effective learners. Building on each student's potential, I firmly believe in tailored strategies that facilitate self-confidence and constructive habits. I explain material in creative ways to identify how my students learn best and form structured study plans for use outside of our lessons. I am committed to building a feedback-based relationship in which my students turn to me for help and receive learning in whatever form they need.

I specialize in the fields of Math and Computer Science and have the qualifications to match. I received a 5 on the AP Calculus BC and AP Computer Science Exams, and have scored an A in all my math and computer science courses. I have excelled in university Data Structures and Computer (Operating) Systems. Throughout high school, I volunteered as a math tutor while leading a State Champion and World Semi-Finalist Robotics team. Currently, I serve as a Peer Academic Coach at UT, helping students to develop and implement study strategies for Time Management, Motivation, Concentration, and Test Taking. I also work as a Teaching Assistant for the Computer (Operating) Systems course at UT, guiding my students in their understanding of the C programming language, memory, file systems, threads, processes, and more! I have had the pleasure of interning with HEB-Digital as a Back End Engineering Intern this past summer and will be interning with Amazon this summer as a Software Development Engineering Intern!

I am offering to tutor virtually for my students' wellbeing and learning experience.

Can explain the same topic in different ways

I'm taking an intro to programming class as a way to gain an understanding to the software projects I'm involved in at work. As someone with a medical background, learning how to write code is not something that comes naturally. Joel is able to explain each topic thoroughly and he checks for understanding often. Best of all, he can think of different ways to explain the same thing, which really helps to increase my understanding of the subject. Overall, Joel is very knowledgeable and is a good teacher.
