Professional Experience: Prior to becoming an educator, I served aboard a fast attack submarine as a nuclear reactor operator. I qualified as Engineering Watch Supervisor and was appointed by the Pentagon as the Reactor Control Division Supervisor. I learned math, chemistry, and physics in the Naval Nuclear Power Program, first in navy classrooms then in operational nuclear plants. After leaving the navy, I became a nuclear equipment operator with Arkansas Nuclear One where I earned a commercial reactor operator’s license. I later earned a senior reactor operator’s license at Beaver Valley Nuclear Station near Pittsburgh, PA. I also qualified as a fire brigade commander, radiological worker, and advanced training instructor. Additionally, I earned a Six Sigma greenbelt designation from Caterpillar, Inc. for two projects that were estimated to add $2 million to Caterpillar’s profits while employed by Advanced Technology Services. I am in my 8th year as a Texas teacher. I have mostly taught secondary math and I have been both a lead Algebra 1 and lead on-level Algebra 2 teacher. I have also taught Geometry, 8th grade math, and Pre-Calculus as well as Conceptual Physics.
As an Algebra 1 teacher, my state EOC pass rates were 98%, 100%, 95%, and 87%. I have used math, physics, chemistry, and engineering to operate and repair nuclear plants. I can tie math to science.
Students have often told my principals that one on one tutorial time with me brought the needed understanding.
