Hi! I am a current doctoral candidate specializing in evolutionary biology and genetics. I hold a B.S. in Animal Sciences (with a focus on pre-veterinary medicine). I have three years of experience teaching college-level courses in molecular and cellular biology, genetics, and bioinformatics.
My teaching philosophy is very student-centered. As a tutor, I will work with you to identify your individual learning style and determine the best methods for improving your subject knowledge and problem-solving ability. By the end of the sessions, I want you to feel confident and motivated to excel at what you entered into the session struggling with. I also enjoy helping students make real-world connects to the concepts that they are learning.
Comments from previous students:
"Em was by far the best TA I've had in my four years as an undergraduate. She genuinely wanted us to succeed and always explained complex topics in a way that we could understand. When I was confused on certain topics, she would help guide me in the right direction. Her excitement about genetics made me excited to learn."
"I wish every teaching assistant had [Em's] enthusiasm when teaching and had her dedication to her students. Em never left any questions unanswered, she was extremely knowledgeable about the content. Em always made sure that we felt confident in the material, no matter how long it took to understand it."
