My name is Talal A., and I am currently a medical student in Houston pursuing my M.D. after completing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology (concentration in Neuroscience) with a minor in Psychology. My academic background also includes coursework and practical experience in computer science, which has helped shape the analytical and problem-solving approach I bring to tutoring. Throughout my academic journey—from undergraduate science courses to the rigor of medical school—I have developed a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, anatomy & physiology, and psychology, as well as standardized test preparation and study strategy. Having recently navigated the medical school admissions process myself, I also understand the challenges students face when mastering complex material under pressure.
My teaching experience comes from a combination of formal tutoring, mentorship, and peer education in both structured and one-on-one environments. During my undergraduate years, I regularly worked with fellow students who were struggling in foundational science courses, helping them break down difficult concepts into understandable steps. More recently, in medical school, I have continued mentoring classmates and pre-medical students by helping them refine study strategies, review high-yield concepts, and build systems for long-term retention such as active recall and spaced repetition. I have worked with students ranging from middle school through college, often in one-on-one settings where lessons can be tailored to each student’s learning style and pace.
My tutoring approach focuses on building understanding rather than memorization. I try to meet students where they are, identify gaps in their reasoning, and guide them toward thinking through problems independently. I believe that confidence grows when students feel capable of explaining ideas themselves, and my goal is always to help students leave sessions not only with the correct answer, but with the tools to solve similar problems on their own.
