Hi! My name is Alexa, and I’m offering tutoring services in expository, creative, and college essay application writing, in addition to standardized test prep for E/R. I recently graduated from Harvard with a degree in Neurobiology and minor in English. There, I was a former John Harvard scholar (top 5% of grade) and received the Edward Eager Memorial Prize, an award for the best creative writing by an undergraduate in the Harvard English Department. I received 36s on both the English and Reading sections of the ACT and have extensive experience prepping high schoolers for both the SAT and ACT, with former students seeing a composite score increase of up to 9 points on the latter.
I firmly believe that writing is neither a fixed nor innate talent, but, rather, a skill anyone can hone. I grew significantly as a writer and thinker throughout high school, and I want to help your or your child do the same. I deeply enjoy teaching, and this work is very meaningful to me. For teaching expository and creative writing, I have flexibility to work with you on individual assignments or pieces for editing and brainstorming. If you are seeking to hone particular skills, in the past, I have also put together a week-by-week custom curriculum for my students, given your goals and areas for improvement.
When it comes to standardized testing, I take a personalized approach. I create custom materials (e.g., worksheets, strategy guides, and flowcharts) and source official practice sections tailored to your specific needs. I don’t use a one-size-fits-all curriculum; instead, I design a plan around a student's strengths and areas for improvement, which, in my experience, yields the best results. I also assign, grade, and analyze full practice exams outside of sessions to ensure each meeting is focused and productive.
