Hello! My name is James. I received my PhD in chemistry from the University of Toronto, a top university in the world. Prior to that, I received a master’s and a bachelor’s as well, both in chemistry. For academic excellence, I was awarded three University of Toronto Fellowships, along with a prestigious Robert and Jean Hadgraft Scholarship in Chemistry. I received my degree with a GPA of A. I had 6 years of experience working under classroom and laboratory settings as a teaching assistant to groups of 10-20 college students, many pre-meds, in general chemistry and organic chemistry. In addition, I had 2 years of experience working as a private tutor, to both high-schoolers and college students, on a one-on-one basis. With over 20 years of experience in chemistry, I am more than well-equipped to share my knowledge with students who are struggling with their course work and who want to overcome the obstacles quicker and more effectively.
Below is how I would approach to make sure students get the most out of their time. Through advance communication, I will prepare ahead of time what to be taught and discussed during each session, making emphases over the key points for boosting understanding, memorizing and quiz or exam readiness. Teaching will be conducted interactively, with the main concerns of the student addressed fully and explicitly. Afterward, I will follow up with student to remind them the key points and best strategy going forward, as well as reminders for next session.
As a result of the tutoring, students may expect to go through their upcoming in-school classes with enhanced confidence and enjoyment, followed by visible results from quizzes and exams. Regardless of what path the student chooses, the knowledge learnt during the tutoring secessions is expected to greatly benefit their future education and profession.
