My 12 years of experience include teaching English classes at a private high school, and my tutoring experience during that same time has focused on English, history (and history-adjacent subjects like government and geography), German, Spanish, and Algebra. I have a huge passion for all these subjects but I totally understand how even good students can need a little extra help with them for lots of reasons, and I love using my skills to help people. I've helped numerous students to graduate from high school and score above 30 on their ACT composite scores, and one student I've tutored even became a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. I've tutored both online and in one-on-one meetings where students met with me in a tutoring center and in public places such as libraries.
As a tutor, my usual method is to focus on your most urgent need first, such as reviewing for an upcoming test, helping on current homework assignments, etc. Then, as we work on those together, I'll look for other skills that you might need help with, such as earlier lessons that you never quite mastered, material that your teachers never taught you, study habits that you need to develop, and so on. I try not to waste time reviewing lessons that you already know and I don't give busy work. I want to help you to succeed so that you won't need tutoring anymore; I won't try to squeeze pennies out of you because I make a living instead by having satisfied clients who refer their friends and family to me.
