About Claire

Bio

I received my Bachelor's Degree of Science at Louisiana State University in 2019, where I majored in biology and minored in psychology. During that time, I gained experience as a SI (supplemental instruction) leader in general biology for majors. During my Master's Degree at Lamar University, which was awarded to me in 2023, I gained 2 years of teaching experience as a TA (teaching assistant) for general biology (for majors) and anatomy and physiology laboratories.

I also used my background in biology and psychology to research the neurobiology of psychiatric disorders and the neuropharmacology of cannabidiol. Through this experience, I gained expertise in pharmacology and neurobiology research, which I used to write multiple manuscripts, including a first-author publication in IBRO Neuroscience Reports. I have presented my award-winning research at several conferences and taught cannabidiol neuropharmacology to legal experts at the Clark Hill Cannabis Law Division. I am experienced in mentoring undergraduate students in scientific article writing, experimental design, and in applying protocols like Western Blot, cell culture, and pharmacological treatment to their projects.

Pharmacology

Pharmacology

I researched the pharmacology of CBD (cannabidiol) in human neurons as part of the thesis project to earn my Master's Degree of Science in Biology at Lamar University. I have published research on the complex mechanism of action of CBD in PTSD patients. During this experience, I developed experience in western blotting, cell culture, and drug treatment. My current systematic review projects include investigating the neuropharmacological properties of the phytochemicals, kaempferol and quercetin, in Alzheimer's Disease, and another CBD pharmacology review. This review investigates the literature exploring biological outcomes of the pharmacological interactions between CBD and the 5-HT1AR, while aiming to delineate whether CBD is a partial agonist or allosteric modulator of the receptor.
Psychology

Psychology

As part of my thesis research in neuropharmacology to complete my Master's Degree of Science in Biology, I focused on the intersection between molecular drug-receptor interactions and the behavioral implications. Moreover, I wrote a systematic review article exploring the circuit changes and consequent behavioral changes associated with PTSD, and the mechanisms by which a drug called CBD (cannabidiol), could alleviate PTSD symptoms, starting at the molecular level. This research employed a methodological system starting at the synapse and ending with the outcome on behavior.
