Hi! I'm Donna. I am a graduate of Texas A & M University with a B.S. in Education and a specialty in reading. I am state certifitied to teach 1st through 8th grade, but I have tutored kindergarten students to high school students. I have taught in public schools, home school situations, and private schools from first through 12th grade. I have been trained in Project Read (phonics / written expression), and I have worked with reluctant readers and writers as well as gifted and talented students. I am also a published author of over 12 books, including 5 full-length historical novels. I currently teach middle-school language arts at a small private school.
I have tutored for over 20 years. Most of that has been in one-on-one instruction, but I am now tutoring online as well. My superpower is in teaching writing through systematic approaches to sentence structure, paragraph writing, and essay writing. I am also skilled in helping younger and older students get "caught" up in their reading. My strategies include phonics, whole language, vocabulary immersion, mind mapping, and more. I tailor these approaches to individual student needs for maximum impact and quicker progress.
