Bio

I'm Heather. I absolutely love tutoring. I tutored students in remedial math all the way up to Calculus II at Surry Community College for a year. Now I have tutored through this website for a year. I also often lead study groups in my Calculus III, Physics, Chemistry, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra classes. I tutored middle school math privately until I moved to Charlotte as well.

I'm Heather. I absolutely love tutoring. I tutored students in remedial math all the way up to Calculus II at Surry Community College for a year. Now I have tutored through this website for a year. I also often lead study groups in my Calculus III, Physics, Chemistry, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra classes. I tutored middle school math privately until I moved to Charlotte as well.

My Calculus teacher often tried to convince me to be a teacher, but building bridges is what I really want to do. I've never had a student whose grade did not improve. I'm definitely not one of the tutors that will just give students answers. I feel that it is more beneficial to lead them to ask questions or come up with ideas on their own that will ultimately allow them to arrive at the correct answer. I also feel it is important to show students where things come from. For example, instead of just giving a student a formula, I will show him or her where that formula comes from so that if he or she forgets the formula on a test or assignment it will be possible to analyze the situation and figure it out.

I care deeply about all of the students I tutor, and I want nothing more than to see all of them succeed. I am wiling to put in extra time and effort to make this happen. I try to be as flexible as possible with my schedule, and I am usually available within a day or two of receiving an e-mail.

I have tutored numerous students in Algebra 2. In high school I received an A. In college I made an A in College Algebra, Linear Algebra, and Intro to Modern Algebra. This fall I will be taking Modern Algebra I.

I have tutored numerous students in Algebra 2. In high school I received an A. In college I made an A in College Algebra, Linear Algebra, and Intro to Modern Algebra. This fall I will be taking Modern Algebra I.
Calculus

Calculus

At Surry Community College most of the students I tutored were taking Calculus I and II. I have also tutored many students privately in Calculus I, II, and III. In college I received an A in Calculus I, II, III, and IV. This fall I will be taking Advanced Calculus.
Geometry

I have tutored 4 students in Geometry. They all completed the class successfully. In high school, I made an A in Geometry, and I took a higher level Geometry class in college (also receiving an A).
Linear Algebra

In college I received and A in Linear Algebra. I also lead many study groups for that class. I have taken (and made an A in) Modern Algebra which uses ideas from Linear Algebra.
SAT Math

SAT Math

Although the SAT has changed a little since I took it in high school, I have kept up to date with these changes. I have recently tutored 4 students in all SAT subjects.
Statistics

I have had many Statistics classes over the years (one in high school and two in college). The latest was Probability and Statistics for Engineers. This goes into more depth than Intro to Statistics. I received and A in all of my statistics classes. I have tutored 5 students in Statistics, all of which made is through the class successfully.

Highly Recommended!

Heather's profile is very accurate. She is much more than a "drill" instructor, coaching you towards understanding concepts rather than repetitive problem solving. She is very easy to work with, from scheduling sessions, to being available for extra help during exam time. We survived Calc 2 thanks to Heather and will hopefully be able to utilize her through calc 3 and diff eq-she is a valuable resource to have in your corner!

My daughter suffers from severe anxiety and is finishing her senior year utilizing online classes. She needed some help with Advanced Functions and Modeling, and was feeling very stressed about the course. It often makes her feel anxious or shy to be around strangers, but Heather is so calm and pleasant that my daughter is completely at ease. Heather is able to explain the math behind the problems and is very encouraging. My daughter feels much more confident about the math course, and is staying on track with her studies, which makes me very happy!
