Hello! I'm Jacob, a fourth-year medical student at Dell Medical School (UT Austin), one month away from earning my MD and MPH degrees. Before medical school, I graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I'm also a former Army combat medic with six years of military service, which shaped how I think about science, problem-solving, and teaching under pressure.
My love for tutoring started as an undergrad, where I volunteered to tutor Organic Chemistry 1 and 2, and it stuck. Helping someone finally understand a concept they've been struggling with is one of the most rewarding things I know. I believe learning is a skill in itself, one that should be built on conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization. With me as your tutor, we'll make that shift together.
I have 5+ years of tutoring experience across biology and chemistry, working directly under professors to develop strategies for struggling students. I have taught health science courses at a local high school for 2 years during medical school through an initiative called HCC (Health Careers Collaborative). I've worked with groups of students both in-person and via Zoom, covering homework help, test prep, and concept discussions. Now, with years of medical training layered on top, I bring a deeper understanding of how biology connects to real-world medicine which means I can help you not just memorize facts, but truly understand why they matter.
I've been a student my entire life and a medic, a soldier, a researcher, and a teacher along the way. I know what it takes to succeed in rigorous science courses, and I know how to meet students where they are. Whether you need help building a study plan, breaking down a tough concept, or just want someone who will actually respond quickly; I'm here for it.
