Bio

Hello! I'm Jacob, a fourth-year medical student at Dell Medical School (UT Austin), one month away from earning my MD and MPH degrees. Before medical school, I graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I'm also a former Army combat medic with six years of military service, which shaped how I think about science, problem-solving, and teaching under pressure.

My love for tutoring started as an undergrad, where I volunteered to tutor Organic Chemistry 1 and 2, and it stuck. Helping someone finally understand a concept they've been struggling with is one of the most rewarding things I know. I believe learning is a skill in itself, one that should be built on conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization. With me as your tutor, we'll make that shift together.

I have 5+ years of tutoring experience across biology and chemistry, working directly under professors to develop strategies for struggling students. I have taught health science courses at a local high school for 2 years during medical school through an initiative called HCC (Health Careers Collaborative). I've worked with groups of students both in-person and via Zoom, covering homework help, test prep, and concept discussions. Now, with years of medical training layered on top, I bring a deeper understanding of how biology connects to real-world medicine which means I can help you not just memorize facts, but truly understand why they matter.

I've been a student my entire life and a medic, a soldier, a researcher, and a teacher along the way. I know what it takes to succeed in rigorous science courses, and I know how to meet students where they are. Whether you need help building a study plan, breaking down a tough concept, or just want someone who will actually respond quickly; I'm here for it.

Approved Subjects

Biology

Biology

I graduated summa cum laude with a major in biology. I made an A in every single biology class I have taken. I have worked as a tutor for 2 years and can assist in any learning experience.
Genetics

Genetics

I have taken genetics as a part of my degree plan and made an A in the class. At the University of North Texas this qualifies me to tutor for them as well. I have also taken the lab for Genetics which involved running and maintaining experiments with Drosophila melanogaster and C. elegans for Mendelian and Morgan genetics as well as screening for mutations. I have 2 years of tutoring experience and can help those in need.
Microbiology

Microbiology

I graduated summa cum laude with a major in biology. I have worked in a microbiology lab and conducted a collective project to discover new microorganisms and new antibiotics. This research involved PCR and genomic sequencing to confirm and discover new organisms and processes.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

My foundation in neuroscience was built through both formal medical education at Dell Medical School at UT Austin and dedicated involvement in neurology throughout my clinical training. I served as Vice President of the Student Interest Group in Neurology, reflecting a deep commitment to the field beyond the classroom. My research experience at the Austin VA Medical Center focused on traumatic brain injury screening in veterans, giving me hands-on exposure to applied neuroscience in a clinical research setting. This combination of academic training, research experience, and clinical exposure allows me to break down complex neuroscience concepts in a way that is engaging and accessible for students at any level.
Nutrition

Nutrition

My foundation in nutrition was developed through rigorous academic training across both my MD and MPH programs at Dell Medical School at UT Austin, where I examined nutrition through the lens of both individual patient care and population health. My clinical rotations provided hands-on experience applying nutritional principles to disease prevention, metabolic health, and patient management. This dual medical and public health perspective allows me to teach nutrition comprehensively, connecting foundational science to real-world clinical and community health outcomes in a way that is accessible and relevant for students at any level.
Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

I have tutored 7 different groups over 2 years amounting to roughly 50 students. This tutoring involved organic chemistry 1 and 2. I have worked with students needing homework help, test prep, and general explanations and chapter reviews.
Physiology

Physiology

My understanding of anatomy and physiology has been built across multiple stages of my career, beginning as an EMT-Basic, continuing through six years of Army service as a combat medic, and culminating in completing my MD and MPH at Dell Medical School at UT Austin. Throughout this journey I have applied physiological knowledge in high-stakes real-world environments while also mastering it at an academic level. This combination of hands-on clinical experience and rigorous academic training allows me to teach physiology from multiple angles, making complex concepts accessible and relevant to students at any level.
