Greetings, Learners of the World Wide Web!
My name is Bianca, and I hold a Ph. D in Comparative Literature from the University of Texas at Austin.
I also hold a B.A. in Comparative Literature and a minor in Italian. Having been taught how to be a a more critical reader by the best instructors, I also learned how to be a better writer and speaker.
As a tutor, I aim to mimic the teaching techniques of my favorite professors. In my two years of tutoring, I've helped a diverse set of students- from Chinese-Canadian middle schoolers and high schoolers, to Korean business professionals, to engineers in South Texas. I’ve also volunteered at Sequoia Adult Scholars by helping ESL students at community colleges improve their writing skills. The age has ranged from 13 to 50, and, as one expect, each demographic has different learning goals. Most of these tutoring sessions occurred remotely with students who wanted to improve their English speaking and writing skills. My first session usually consists of getting to know the student and learning about their learning levels and goals. No matter the varied needs of each student, I aim to encourage students, challenge them to remember and apply past lessons, and pinpoint areas for improvement. The learning process isn't always a steady upward progression; sometimes we get stuck for a little while then make rapid improvements. Every student is different, and that's why on-one-one tutoring is a great learning opportunity!
I'm looking forward to working with each of you. Feel free to message me if you would like to know about my education and/or tutoring experience and schedule lessons! Have a great day. :)

As a college student, I've tutored a variety of students- from Turkish graduate students to Chinese middle schoolers who want to improve their reading and speaking skills. With an education in literature and with experience teaching both native and non-native English speakers, I am confident in my ability to help you become a better reader, writer, and speaker.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I have been tutoring a diverse number of ESL students for over two years, both in person and over Skype. They are at a variety of skill levels, from beginning to advanced. I seek to first learn the student's skill level, and then set learning goals.
Italian

Italian

At Stanford, I took three years of Italian, and even studied in Florence for three months. During those three months, I lived with a Florentine family and took classes in Italian. I continued my study of Italian upon returning to campus, and later won 3rd place in the Roberts-Martin prize for Italian literature.
Literature

Literature

My background is, essentially, in world literature. While I might not remember the date when an English work was published, I do have experience reading Japanese, Turkish, Arabic, Chinese, Latin American, Canadian, Italian, French, and feminist literature. I'd love to hear about your essay!

I've extensive writing experience through both my high school and university education. As a student of the humanities, I've learned to read and write critically on a diverse number of subjects- from material culture, to medieval Persian poetry, to the history of the pistachio.
