Hey there - I'm Steven and I'm a former Sr. Staff Software Engineer who relocated to Austin, TX from San Francisco, CA. After years spent in technology product management analyzing software I myself couldn't develop I decided I was tired of finding problems for others to solve, I wanted to craft the solution. A year later, and I became employed as a Software Engineer at one of the top companies in the world. I don't want to mislead anyone, this was only achievable with the help of very specific learning techniques which shortened the learning curve tremendously and provided a methodology which made learning new concepts much simpler. I've pored over thousands of resources, watched hundreds hours of video tutorials, and amassed 2500 hours of coding in 2017 alone.

After engaging in this accelerated learning program, I've developed tips, tricks and techniques that I'm positive you can apply to your own learning process to get the most out of your time.

I think the ideal student for my skill set and knowledge base would be someone beginning preparation for admissions into a bootcamp. I have four years of experience in design and have created countless websites using CSS and SCSS (SASS) for style syntax. In addition, I've taken several courses on specific new techniques in the field, including CSS3; SASS: mixins, variables, nesting; Flexbox best practices; responsive design using CSS (i.e., media queries, using CSS in combination with jQuery); CSS for email marketing.

In order to brush up on my Javascript skills, I have recently completed a 3 month intensive Javascript bootcamp in San Francisco logging approximately 1500 hours of coding time since October 1st of 2016 when combining preparation and coursework. During the 3 month program I was tested for and showed technical proficiency on subjects such as: - Object Oriented Programming - ES6 syntax - Javascript's prototype methods (numbers, strings, arrays, objects) - Data structures (stacks, queues, linked lists, hash tables, binary trees, graphs and sets) - Functional programming techniques ( callbacks, scope, order of operations, recursion) Since completing the course, I have been the lead developer on a number of Javascript projects all written exclusively in javascript. I feel that I can best assist your learning by helping you master the fundamentals of Javascript which are used at every stage of your learning journey. Developing a strong fundamental base is the ONLY way to succeed with the more challenging concepts such as promises, frameworks (Angular, React) and object oriented programming. I am an extensive note taker, documentation reader and a huge believer in using simple exercises to help drive growth in more complex concepts.

I've written a number of simple jQuery solutions including many for my former company during my time in client facing marketing and design roles. Additionally, I've taken multiple courses exclusively on jQuery and understand the language's strengths and, alternatively, its limitations. I have used jQuery in parallel with CSS and HTML design work and find it to be quite intuitive given the right instruction. I feel many of the struggles with the language are from not properly understanding the 'listener - event' format that really extends jQuery's power in DOM manipulation.
