Hello everyone, Samir here- welcome to my profile! I am excited to help guide students through their educational journey. I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Economics and later completed a Master's degree in Development Economics. Since then, my work has taken me across the U.S., India, and Liberia, where I have worked in international development and research. Throughout it all, tutoring has remained a constant. I have continued working with students remotely while living abroad, managing time differences and unreliable internet connections to keep our sessions going.

Tutoring is something I've always had an interest in. In high school, I operated my own tutoring service from sophomore year through graduation, primarily working with middle school students in subjects ranging from English to Mathematics. Despite having my own schoolwork, I always came prepared and gave my full attention to my students.

Students would often bring in assignments and ask me to assist them. Rather than simply do their homework for them, which I'm sure they would have preferred, I would walk them through the thought process behind solving each problem. Relatable analogies and real-world examples helped clarify difficult concepts. Over time, students grew more comfortable putting the pieces together themselves, requiring less overt "teaching" and more subtle guidance and encouragement.

Over the years, I have worked with students for extended periods and watched them progress through different stages of their education. Some of those relationships continued while I was living thousands of miles away. Whether that meant adjusting to a large time difference or finding a reliable enough internet connection, I made it work.

I know what it is like to be so confused about something that you just feel like giving up, and that's exactly what I'm here for- to offer some guidance and make learning a bit less frustrating and a lot more rewarding. I hope to play an active role in my students' educational development.

Guitar

I have been playing guitar since I was twelve years old. I play arpeggios while eating oatmeal in the morning just so I don’t lose my mojo, and I run scales down the fretboard like I’m training for a musical marathon. I also have a ton of patience with novice players because I understand how frustrating the process of learning the guitar can be, especially initially. My ultimate goal in teaching someone the guitar - or any instrument, for that matter - is to help them develop into the musician that they want to be and give them the ability to express themselves through one of the most powerful mediums I have ever encountered for doing so.

Very skilled and engaging tutor

Samir is an excellent tutor. He has the ability to take a lesson that my son found boring in school and make it relatable and engaging. He is very good at pushing my son to not only perform better at school but to take pride in his work. I have noticed that my son has become more organized and invested in high school since we started tutoring with Samir. Definitely recommend him!

Excellent Tutor

Samir did such an amazing job! He explained things well and was very thorough. I found him to be extremely knowledgable and relatable in many areas. My favorite thing about Samir was that he was very easy to work with - he was kind, patient, and his relaxed style made learning more fun. Also, his composition skills and essay organizations skills were excellent as well.
