Bio

My tutoring philosophy is to provide you an experienced perspective on your attempted course work.

I prefer that students come prepared to a tutoring session, with written questions about their text and/or class notes. It also helps to bring a first written attempt at any of their homework or other course assessments. If needed, I can teach a math topic from scratch, but that often involves more time used than what the student budgeted.

For my education, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Pure Mathematics, from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition, I tutored undergraduate math courses for 7 years through UT's Learning Skills Center, and for 3 years through ACC's Learning Labs. The majority of my tutoring experience focuses on both engineering and business calculus , as well as ordinary differential equations. However, I have also helped students in non-technical math survey courses, college algebra, pre-calculus, statistics, and linear algebra.

I try to determine a student's competency level(s) in their mathematics course based on their written work, and then I provide tutoring that builds from those levels - "find the student's ability, and work from there". I am willing to work with both students who are struggling and students who are exceptional, and anywhere along that spectrum.

Statistics

Statistics

I used statistics in tutoring Business Calculus at UT-Austin, and through tutoring the introductory courses at Austin Community College. I do not have a lot of experience with multi-variate regression yet, or Business Analytics, but I would like to develop those branches through tutoring. (for BA, I do have some fairly complex skills with Microsoft Excel)

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I tutored Calculus for 10+ years, as well as algebra 1; so I have a good understanding of how the algebra concepts lay the foundations for the later calculus course work. Also, the calculus work creates more challenging algebra applications that may not be touched on in an algebra course.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I tutored Calculus for 10+ years, as well as algebra; so I have a good understanding of how the algebra concepts lay the foundations for the later calculus course work. Also, the calculus work creates more challenging algebra applications that may not be touched on in an algebra 2 course.
Calculus,

Calculus

- Calculus tutoring experience: 10+ years, in college-based learning labs (still employed). - Experience includes single variable and multi-variable calculus - High proficiency with application problems; integration techniques, and infinite series - Tutoring experience includes both business calculus and engineering calculus courses
Geometry,

Geometry

I tutored Calculus for 10+ years, as well as geometry; so I have a good understanding of how the geometry concepts lay the foundations for the later calculus course work. Also, the calculus work creates more challenging geometry applications that may not be touched on in an algebra course.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I tutored Calculus for 10+ years, as well as algebra; so I have a good understanding of how the Prealgebra concepts lay the foundations for the later calculus course work. Also, the calculus work creates more challenging algebra applications that may not be touched on in an algebra course.

Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

I am familiar with multiple topics in discrete math, ranging from probability and statistics to number theory and network theory. As there is some variance in how the subject is taught, potential tutees need to bring class notes and textbooks to sessions.

Probability,

Probability

I studied probability as part of my math curricula, and I have used some of the principles in the 5 years that I've tutored statistics. I would like to strengthen my understanding of the material by trying to tutor it; but there may be some topics that I still need to review.

Knowledgeable and accommodating

Really appreciated his assistance. He knew everything I needed and we were able to get through an assignment with explanation much more quickly than I anticipated.
