Bio

I work as an environmental engineer, but I have worked and been certified in math/science secondary education. I have a master's in environmental engineering, a bachelor's in chemical engineering, and have tutored college courses privately. I have been providing tutoring services to students for over a decade, privately and under tutoring companies. My teaching certification expired in July 2020 and I returned to engineering. I work as an environmental engineer, but I have worked and been certified in math/science secondary education. I have a master's in environmental engineering, a bachelor's in chemical engineering, and have tutored college courses privately. I have been providing tutoring services to students for over a decade, privately and under tutoring companies. My teaching certification expired in July 2020 and I returned to engineering. I have experience with elementary school to college level students and most of my tutoring has been for exam preparation, such as the SAT, ASVAB, ACT, CLT, and state exams. I have tutored a wide range of students, including those who are home schooled, have academic/ learning limitations, or require a personalized program. I am available most evenings and weekends provided there is sufficient notice. I love being a tutor because I have personally experienced the impact that personalized instruction has on a student. My approach to teaching is collaborative and encourages students to explore different approaches to problems. My rates are flexible and I am willing to travel to students if necessary. If you have financial issues, but require more than 2 hours a week, I can work with you. My concern first and foremost is that everyone enjoys learning. I have experience mentoring a high school kid whom I was tutoring for math. I helped the student develop better test taking skills and better problem solving abilities. I can help students develop good study habits. Students will learn many skills in the four following categories; note taking strategies, test-taking strategies, organization and time-management and reading and research. My current job as an engineer doing research gives me insight to proper strategies for reading and studying various subjects. Students will learn how to read quicker and identify important aspects of a text, taking notes when doing so to help them remember afterward. Some students require more visual learning than others, so I will employ different methods when teaching. I have taken classes in college about proper test-taking and studying skills. I will assist the student in improving these skills and with time it will improve their grade and attitude to learning. I am also willing to help students build a proper schedule because planning and time management make a big difference in academic performance.
