I believe that tutoring should be done with a goal in mind. It should be a choice that the student makes not the parent and should not be a stressful event. I enjoy working with teenagers and I also enjoy science and math. I teach thinking skills, organizational skills, and help students learn to ask for what they need to succeed.

I have an undergraduate degree in physics from Carnegie Mellon University and a masters in molecular genetics and biochemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. I have been tutoring for 18 years in both math and science.

Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have helped children as young as 6 with both reading comprehension and mathematical concepts. Young learners are more eager to learn new concepts but often have not learned logic or working with multiple steps to answer problems. I like to help this age group prepare for what they will study in high school.
Finite Math

Finite Math

I have taken linear algebra and quantum theory and mathematical methods of physics. I am familiar with modeling data, matrix algebra, and probability and combinatorics. I realize that finite math is the left overs that are not part of calculus. I feel I have tutored students in these areas that often was not labeled as finite math.
Genetics

Genetics

I have a masters in molecular genetics and I worked with papilloma viral DNA. My master's thesis was in computational structural determination.

Amy is awesome!

Amy has been tutoring my teen daughter for the last month and has been very helpful. She is encouraging her and helping her to gain her confidence in math again. We are thankful we found her!

Patient teacher who understands students’ needs

Amy was very helpful in working through functions and other algebra concepts with our daughter. She takes the time to understand the student’s perspective and provide guidance as to where the gaps/difficulties lie. I also found her to be a great sounding board on how to approach our child’s first real academic challenge that she’s faced.

Excellent Tutor!!!

We have been very pleased with Amy’s experience, expertise, positive attitude, patience and flexibility! Her wonderful assistance came in the middle of “crunch time” and she quickly helped our son prioritize and learn, not memorize, assignments! And did so creating a positive environment and good study habits! He looks forward to seeing her and working hard! We are so grateful for her!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Amy is very knowledgeable in math and science. She dove right in with my daughter on her Chemistry and Alg 2. She also talked her about setting goals, organization, and time management. I think my daughter will build confidence in all these areas with Amy's help.

She instills a great balance of knowledge and confidence.

My daughter was having real problems keeping her head above water in her physics class. Within a few weeks of working with Amy, she not only got her grade up and had a much better understanding of the subject matter, she gained confidence in her own ability to learn from her mistakes. This was a huge part of how Amy worked with her. I highly recommend Amy.

great bonus

Amy was able to provide us feedback aboutt our teenages strengths and weaknesses as a learner, not just on specific subject matter material.

Knowledgeable and wonderful tutor

Amy provided a test prep for chemistry for my son. He learned weeks of objectives in an hour session with Amy. There is no doubt that we will continue to use her as his tutor. My son enjoyed her company and said she taught chemistry to the point where she made it so easy and that he enjoys it. Amy is absolutely great! So glad she is our tutor!
