Bio

My name is Diego G., Master of Science, and I’m a mathematician who graduated from UC Berkeley.
As a kid, I was fascinated by arithmetic and algebra, and I always looked forward to my math classes. I was a straight As math student in high school and represented my school in local math Olympiads twice. As a teenager, I developed a deeper passion for math when I learned calculus and read through all of Leithold’s book, which allowed me to get ahead of my class.

My name is Diego G., Master of Science, and I’m a mathematician who graduated from UC Berkeley.
As a kid, I was fascinated by arithmetic and algebra, and I always looked forward to my math classes. I was a straight As math student in high school and represented my school in local math Olympiads twice. As a teenager, I developed a deeper passion for math when I learned calculus and read through all of Leithold’s book, which allowed me to get ahead of my class.
I moved to the US from Peru in 2010 and enrolled at Saddleback College to then transfer to UC Berkeley, where I obtained my B.A. in mathematics in 2016. In 2018 I obtained my M.S. in applied mathematics from Cal Poly Pomona. I got As in all my math and physics classes while in university. I currently work full-time as a game mathematician for Take-Two Interactive, but my love for teaching mathematics makes me want to continue teaching here on Wyzant!
I have always helped my friends, high school and university classmates in their math and physics classes. Since 2012, I’ve tutored hundreds of STEM majors in the university and community college settings, as well as academically ambitious high school students taking college level, honors, or AP math and physics classes. Most of my students pursue or will pursue an engineering or a math degree, and some of them have become math tutors themselves! Before working in games, I was a math instructor at UC Berkeley for 1 summer, and at Cal Poly Pomona for 2 quarters.

AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, Business Calculus, BioCalculus, Calculus For Life Sciences, Higher Level International Baccalaureate Math (HL IB Math), Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Calculus 4, single-variable Calculus, and multi-variable Calculus are all my favorite subjects to teach! Linear Algebra

I've specialized in Linear Algebra for over 10 years and have helped numerous undergraduate students build a strong understanding of the subject. As a mathematics student, I earned straight As in both Linear Algebra and Advanced Linear Algebra, developing a solid theoretical foundation. I also applied linear algebra extensively throughout my Master's thesis, giving me practical experience with many of the concepts taught in university courses. In addition, I'm highly proficient with MATLAB and Python, allowing me to demonstrate computational methods, matrix algorithms, and real-world applications whenever they enhance understanding. Whether you need help with vector spaces, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization, orthogonality, singular value decomposition, or matrix decompositions, I can help you understand both the intuition and the mathematics behind the concepts.
MATLAB

MATLAB

My experience with MATLAB spans both undergraduate and graduate studies, as well as research. As an undergraduate at UC Berkeley, I used MATLAB extensively in my Numerical Analysis course, where every assignment required programming in MATLAB. I earned an A in the course. During graduate school, I completed Vanderbilt University's MATLAB certification through Coursera, strengthening my programming and numerical computing skills. I then went on to earn A's in several MATLAB-intensive graduate courses, including Mathematical Programming, Mathematical Modeling, Optimization, and Numerical Linear Algebra. I also relied heavily on MATLAB while completing my master's thesis, writing hundreds of lines of code to implement and validate my mathematical models. As part of my research, I compared the performance and accuracy of my methods against MATLAB's built-in matrix exponential function, expm, giving me practical experience using MATLAB for advanced numerical computation and scientific research. I will only tutor students taking courses that introduces them to MATLAB. Thank you!

In addition to acing my undergrad physics classes, I always found ways to incorporate physics problems in my math projects in grad school. I'm a math master with a love for solving physics problems! I have experience tutoring Physics 1, 2, and 3 (college and university physics). I also tutor AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, and Physics Regents.
