About Faith

Bio

Hello! I'm a certified secondary mathematics teacher moving from the classroom into one-on-one tutoring, and I'd love to help you or your student get genuinely comfortable with math. I taught high school math for four years, specializing in AP Calculus (AB and BC) and Algebra 2. During that time I built our AP Calculus BC program from a single class of 19 students to more than 50, while keeping the AP pass rate above 85%. Most of my classroom work was with high schoolers, but before I taught I spent years tutoring one-on-one, everything from 5th-grade math up through calculus, so I'm at home with students of just about any age or level.

Behind the teaching sits the technical background. I hold Texas secondary certifications in both Mathematics and Physics, a B.S. in Engineering Physics from Westmont College, and a B.A. in Spanish Language and Cultures, which means I'm fully bilingual and glad to tutor in English or Spanish. I'm also a co-author on a peer-reviewed physics paper published in Physical Review C; search my name and you'll find it. Between the physics degree and four years in the classroom, there's very little in high school or introductory college math I can't teach with confidence. I also spent a year as a full-stack software engineer before teaching, so I can bring in the applied, real-world side of math when a student wants to know what it's actually good for.

What I care about most is meeting a student where they are. If math makes you anxious, we start by loosening that fear, working at a pace that rebuilds your confidence before we push into harder territory. If you already love the subject and want someone to stretch you, I'm just as happy there, and calculus is my not-so-secret favorite thing to teach. Every student thinks a little differently, so I adjust how I explain things until it clicks for the person in front of me. I'd love to work with you.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I taught algebra as a fulltime teacher for several years. I am familiar with standardized testing standards.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I taught algebra 2 as a certified high school teacher. Taught advanced, on-level, and special needs students. I can modify content for different levels and I am familiar with Algebra 2 assessment standards. Before teaching I was a physics researcher and a Software Developer.
Calculus

Calculus

I taught AP Calculus BC as a certified AP Teacher for 4 years. During that time I increased the AP test passing rate of the program to 85%, with most of those who passed receiving the top score. I have experiencing teaching all levels of students (AP, Gifted and Talented, Advanced, On-Level, Special Education).
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I taught high school math for 4 years, namely Algebra 2 and AP Calculus. The concepts of prealgebra are baked into these courses, and I come to tutoring sessions ready with several ways to explain new concepts. I am familiar with standard learning expectations and I know where these are concepts are going - I can answer "When am I going to use this?" questions. I have experience teaching all levels of students (advanced, on-level, special education, accommodations, etc.) I am also experienced teaching students with conditions such as ADHD, dysgraphia, dyslexia, and more.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I taught AP Calculus for 4 years, so I'm not just familiar with precalculus concepts, but I know how they will be applied in upcoming courses. I am familiar with Precalculus learning standards and I have experience teaching all levels of students (Advanced, on-level, special ed.)
SAT Math

SAT Math

I hold a degree in Engineering Physics and bring a unique combination of high-level analytical skills and ten years of dedicated mathematics tutoring experience. My formal pedagogical background includes four years as a certified classroom teacher specializing in Algebra 2 and AP Calculus BC, giving me deep insight into the foundational skills tested on the SAT. Over the past decade, I have successfully diagnosed student learning gaps and developed targeted strategies to help learners master both core algebraic concepts and advanced word problems. This extensive track record allows me to efficiently equip students with the conceptual understanding, test-taking stamina, and mathematical shortcuts required to maximize their SAT Math scores.
Spanish

Spanish

I have studied Spanish for over a decade, culminating in a B.A. in Spanish Language and Culture and study abroad experience in Spain. Although my four years of standard classroom teaching were centered on mathematics, my Spanish expertise is backed by four years as an undergraduate Spanish Teaching Assistant supporting college language learners. Additionally, I provided bilingual tutoring and translation services at an immigration law firm, preparing native and non-native speakers for the U.S. citizenship exam. This unique combination of pedagogical training, formal linguistic study, and real-world bilingual communication allows me to tailor lessons to any age or skill level.
