I greatly enjoy helping students understand Physics and Mathematics and become confident in their ability to solve challenging problems. I earned my Ph.D. from Stanford University and spent many years as an engineer, using physics, mathematics, and analytical problem-solving throughout my career. After retiring from industry, I earned my teaching certification and taught Physics and Chemistry in Austin ISD for five years.
I have taught students at many levels, including on-level and Advanced Physics as well as UT OnRamps Physics, a college-level dual-credit course similar in rigor to AP Physics. I have also worked extensively one-on-one with students during my office hours, helping them understand difficult concepts and develop effective problem-solving skills. My education and engineering experience allow me to teach advanced material, but I also recognize that success in physics and mathematics depends on understanding the fundamental concepts.
I believe students can succeed when they are willing to put forth effort and take an active role in learning. My goal as a tutor is not simply to provide answers, but to help students learn how to analyze a problem, identify what they know, ask questions, try different approaches, learn from mistakes, and persevere. Students must set realistic goals for what they want to achieve in school and with tutoring. Most importantly, I want students to gain confidence in their ability to understand physics and mathematics and become increasingly independent learners.
