Hi, I'm Margot. I'm an Honors Mathematics and Physics major at ACC, and have been a tutor in some capacity since middle school, helping younger students as well as my peers excel in Prealgebra and Algebra I. I scored an A in Calculus I with the help of my study group, which taught me that using a conversational, casual style of tutoring makes it easy to identify gaps in knowledge and break intimidating math concepts into manageable pieces. As a student myself, I am very familiar with where and why students get hung up on problems. I make a point to build conceptual understanding in students, not just pattern recognition. That helps math skills transfer not only to the classroom, but to later, more advanced topics as well as the real world.
More than anything, I pride myself on my patience. Math is the most intimidating and stressful subject for many students. Helping anxious students slow down and carefully work through problems without pressure is my specialty. Confidence plays a huge role in performance, and allowing students to work on their Algebra and Prealgebra skills in a peaceful environment can be a huge weight off their shoulders.
