Hello, my name is Rohit, and I am a National Master with over 10 years of tournament experience. I began playing chess at age 8 and have competed successfully at both the state and national level. Over the years, I have played in national tournaments several times, earned second place in the US Junior High School National Championship, won the Texas Middle School State Championship, and tied for second in the Texas High School Championship. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of competitive chess and of how students can prepare for important tournaments with the right guidance and training.
I enjoy teaching students of all ages and skill levels, from complete beginners to serious tournament players. For beginners, I focus on building confidence, teaching the rules of the game, how the pieces move, basic tactics, and simple strategic ideas so they can enjoy chess and feel ready to play their first tournament. For intermediate players, I help with game analysis, improving openings, sharpening tactical awareness, and playing practice games with feedback. For more advanced students, I work to identify weaknesses in their online or tournament games and create a personalized improvement plan based on their specific needs and goals.
My teaching philosophy centers on helping students find ideas on the board, develop long-term plans, and choose candidate moves that best carry out those plans. I want students not only to make strong moves, but also to understand the thinking behind them. For advanced players especially, I teach this method so they can become more independent thinkers and continue improving on their own outside of lessons. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and methodical, and my goal is to help every student become a more confident, thoughtful, and successful chess player. Whether you are just starting out, looking to improve steadily, or preparing for high-level competition, I would be excited to help you reach your goals.
