I provide rigorous, engaging lessons geared to each individual's learning style, level and interests. My strength is fostering self-motivation in students who need confidence and support by making every lesson challenging and accessible. To achieve this, I begin by assessing each student's current knowledge and skills within their grade level and subject area. I incorporate their personal interests, hobbies and preferred content- whether it's soccer, Minecraft, Pokemon, Harry Potter or any other topic. I start by filling any knowledge gaps, move on to high-interest practice activities and finally, I guide them to apply their knowledge to new and meaningful situations, which helps deepen their understanding and build confidence. This systematic approach keeps students so engaged that in my class, they would often advance by 2-3 years in one school year. Students have been known to spend their own time working on projects because it is enjoyable and rewarding. This approach works for any subject with the same results and I am equally comfortable teaching math, science, language arts, or art. By recognizing gaps and providing support in areas within the high-level lesson students build a love of learning as they see real progress.
I have a BFA, a Master's in Educational Administration and a completed teacher certification program through The University of Texas. I have kept up to date in teaching methods and curricular programs that work throughout my 26 years in self-contained 2nd and 4th grade classrooms as well as art.
