My name is Melisa, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Literature. I am currently completing my MFA in Creative Writing, and I also have a degree in Film and Audiovisual Arts.
I began my career in education as a gymnastics coach, a sport I practiced throughout my life. During that time, I realized how much I enjoyed being surrounded by children and teenagers who were eager to explore the world and learn new things. This experience led me to tutoring in English and Spanish, and since 2012 I have worked with students of various ages and learning needs in both subjects.
As my passion for teaching grew, I decided to take the next step by earning a certification in the Montessori method and returning to college to complete my degree in Literature. In 2017 and 2018, I taught Spanish and Literature at the high school level, focusing on helping students develop a genuine reading habit and providing them with the tools to use writing as a way to navigate the challenges of adolescence.
In 2019, I transitioned to elementary education, teaching an inclusive classroom for second and third grade students. My classroom included children with learning disabilities, and working closely with them helped me rediscover a deep love for teaching. Through this experience, I learned that when a child is excited and supported in their learning, there is very little they cannot achieve.
Since then, my primary focus has been to spark curiosity in my students and encourage a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom. I strive to motivate students to explore, question, dismantle, and reassemble ideas so that learning becomes meaningful, lasting, and applicable to all aspects of their lives.
