Hi, I’m Kaitlyn. I am an MFA candidate in Costume Technology at one of the nation’s top programs, where I teach tailoring and garment construction to other graduate students. I have also taught several years of introductory sewing to undergraduates and worked professionally as a draper and tailor for theatre, film, and custom design projects. My work has recently been featured in Vogue. My experience has given me expertise in areas such as flat patterning, draping, tailoring, couture sewing techniques, and many more areas (like hat-making, masks, mascots, and fabric paint+dying!).

My approach to teaching is goal oriented and patient. I tailor each lesson to the student’s experience level and interests, combining technical skill with creative exploration. I want every student to leave with both confidence and a clear understanding of how fabric, fit, and construction work together.

If you’re interested in working with me, feel free to reach out with details about your current project, skill level, goals, or any questions you may have. I look forward to helping you grow your skills and give you the tools you need to be an excellent artist!

I have a strong understanding of Algebra 1 topics such as word problems, graphing, proportions, and building connections between equations and real-world situations. My graduate-level training has given me the ability to explain concepts step by step and in multiple ways, so students can find the approach that works best for them. I enjoy helping students break problems into smaller, manageable steps so they feel less overwhelming. My tutoring style is supportive and patient, focused on building both confidence and problem-solving skills.

Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I hold an MFA and have extensive experience writing personal statements, artist statements, grant applications, and business plans. My work has required clarity, professionalism, and strong narrative structure — skills I bring directly to tutoring. Whether for college, graduate school, or fellowships, I can help you craft a statement that represents your goals and strengths.
