I am a certified reading and language therapist focusing on students with dyslexia. Certified in the Orton-Gillingham approach. This is a mutisensory method which uses phonemes, expressive and written language. First learning to read and then reading to learn. With more than 20 years of experience I have worked with diverse students ranging from 1st grade to adults who have been struggling with comprehension and processing information. I am a graduate of the University of Texas, Austin. I have a Bachelors of Science for Special Education, Elementary and Physical. I received my masters degree from Fairleigh Dickenson in New Jersey specifically for Dyslexia.
During the time that I taught I engaged with all my students with humor, compassion and most importantly patience. I began this journey because of my son. He was unable to read even by the 3rd grade. I knew that my advocacy and learning more about dyslexia would provide him with the education that he needed to successful.
He is now a leading engineer and project manager with a large construction company. Dyslexia does not define who you are in life ! It's a different way of learning.
My interaction with parents is very important. I try to empower each parent or care giver with the knowledge of what their child is learning and explain exactly where I feel they need to begin. Every lesson is individualized. I would welcome the opportunity to work with your child to increase their confidence, building their vocabulary and the especially enjoying learning with out the stress.
