Howdy, y'all! With over 5 years of experience tutoring both privately and at the Gideon Math and Reading Center, I’ve worked with a wide range of students across various ages and skill levels. My primary focus is on math and science, particularly for students in grades 7–12, though I’ve also successfully supported younger learners starting as early as 3rd grade. My teaching philosophy centers on helping students build an intuitive understanding of concepts by connecting new material to what they already know. This approach not only improves comprehension but also boosts confidence and long-term retention. I tailor each session to meet the individual needs of the student, adjusting pacing and style as needed.
As an undergraduate radiation physics major at the University of Texas at Austin, I am well versed in high school math concepts like geometry, algebra, and calculus. I also skipped 2 grades in math during my K-12 journey, meaning that I actually took college level calculus (through Differential Equations) my senior year of high school. All of this experience also helped me score a 1580 SAT, 34 ACT, and a 5 on the Calculus BC (and Calculus AB subscore) AP test, along with straight As in every math course I've taken. My love for engineering, from my time as captain of my high school robotics team to my current role as a project lead for the Engineers of a Sustainable World organization at UT has helped me not only learn new material through connecting it with existing problems, but also to teach others how to do the same. The goal isn't to teach a student how to do one specific problem, but how they can approach a problem they've never seen and connect it to something they already know.
Whether your aim is to improve your scores, gain a deeper insight to current material, or get ahead of your coursework, I can help you achieve your goals. Please reach out or schedule a session so we can start your journey!
