As a highly effective English Language Arts teacher, I am deeply committed to helping students grow as readers, writers, and critical thinkers. I currently teach 8th grade ELA in Austin ISD, where I strive every day to create a positive, inclusive, and intellectually engaging classroom environment. My teaching is rooted in building authentic relationships with each student and designing lessons that connect meaningfully to their lives. Whether we’re analyzing literature, exploring rhetorical strategies, or drafting personal narratives, I aim to create opportunities for students to find their voice and take ownership of their learning.
Before entering the middle school classroom, I spent several years working in higher education and teacher development. I hold a Ph.D. in English from the University of Texas at Austin and have taught everything from rhetoric and composition to Asian-American literature at the university level. I also supported secondary teachers as a course coordinator for the UT OnRamps dual-enrollment program. These experiences have deepened my understanding of how students learn and how to scaffold challenging content effectively. In our tutoring sessions, I bring that same dedication to clarity, growth, and confidence-building—tailoring instruction to your needs while encouraging you to think critically and express yourself with purpose. I look forward to helping you succeed!
