Hello, I'm Dr. Waqaas! I'm an international medical graduate who pivoted into Data Science during the pandemic, graduating with a 4.0 GPA from the University of Chicago's Biomedical Informatics Master's program. I have the unique benefit of having a graduate-level professor for a father and have been the beneficiary of his teaching technique for my entire life, which I have since adopted for myself. I do my best to understand how my students natively approach problems and where they get confused, and I start my instruction from there. I believe in building strong foundations before tackling advanced topics, and I emphasize conceptual understanding before memorization. My overall aim is to provide students with the intuition to solve problems, and I design my lessons around practical hands-on work first and didactic sessions second.
I have a long history of creating teaching material and tutoring, starting from high school where I tutored my cohort in math for 3 years, helping them raise their grades from Es to As. After undergrad, I designed a video course on human-centered design thinking and personally instructed a small group of 5 students to go out into the world (under supervision) and solve people's pain points for about a year. I have since met many medical school aspirants and have helped them with taking the MCAT in one-on-one sessions, focusing on building study plans and pacing themselves through their prep period. I am available to tutor for high school math subjects (Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus), SAT exam prep, MCAT exam prep, and Programming/Data Science (Python, R) instruction.
