Hello! My name is Hiruni! I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin on May 2024 with B.S. Neuroscience Honors. I enjoy tutoring science related subjects such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, organic chemistry, genetics, anatomy and physiology, and neuroscience.
While in college, I managed to TA/tutor for around 3 years. I worked as the PLUS (Peer-Led Undergraduate Studying) Program Coordinator (PC) for Intro to Genetics classes through the Sanger Learning Center for the 2021-2022 school year. As a PC, it was my responsibility to create study guides and give students in difficult classes opportunities to actively study together. I also worked as a remote/in-person tutor for the Sanger Learning Center. I tutored subjects such as genetics, biology, and chemistry. I did this for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school year. Through this experience I was able to learn how to effectively tutor students privately in an online platform as well as tutor student groups of 5-7 students. I was able to learn how to gauge which parts of the subjects the students had trouble with and cater to their individual needs.
While tutoring, I also had the opportunity to work as a Teaching Assistant for an introductory Neuroscience class for two semesters. As a TA, I had to be a master at the subject in order to help the students with any questions that they had. I held weekly office hours for any students that needed help and also helped the professor by grading, making study guides, and assisting writing exams.
I also have experience studying for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) as I am currently applying to medical school. The MCAT involves having a good understanding and application of subjects such as biochemistry, biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, psychology, sociology, and physics. By being immersed in the different fields of science for over 4 years, I was able to develop a solid foundation of the basic principles of these subjects.
